i used to go to Atlanta all the time for work and everytime i FREAKING loved it – wow what a great city!! so many great things to do, so many cultural activities, a true personality that’s palpable of the city – plus, AMAZING FOOD. basically the only thing that matters to me 🙂 when i had the chance to go back last weekend, i jumped at it. i’ve said many times that if i left NYC, i’d definitely consider Atlanta as my next home base. you’d love it too i’m sure.
Georgia Aquarium – Midtown // 225 Baker St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313 // 10am-9pm // $$$$
Guys, this aquarium is worth going to Atlanta for a trip all on it’s own. Cool fact!! The aquarium was actually the LARGEST in the WOOORRRLLLDD until like 2014 or something when Singapore beat it. Crazy right?! It’s still the largest in the country which is something, and it truly is remarkable. You can see whales, and sharks, and WHALE SHARKS, and penguins, and alligators, and piranhas – amazing. worth it. run, don’t walk. (PS it’s pricey, just know it’s worth it and don’t doubt it!)
World of Coca Cola – Downtown // 121 Baker St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313// 10am-5pm// $
The Coca Cola museum is PRETTY awesome, i have to admit. It’s definitely a spot you wouldn’t go to twice, but definitely worth stopping ing. Not only do they show you the process of making Coca Cola and bottling, etc but the part I find fascinating and MOST WORTH IT part of the experience isan area where they have different versions of Coca Cola from all over the world! For instance, depending on taste preferences, some countries may have recipes that are spicy, or extra sweet, or taste like cinnamon…etc! It’s pretty interesting to try, honestly (even though some of them are WAY different than what we have in the USA!)
Atlanta Braves – Midtown // 755 Battery Avenue Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30339 // changes per game // $$
Maybe you’re a baseball fan and you want to knock out as many stadiums as you can in your life. Maybe you hate baseball but you go to Atlanta in the summer and are craving over priced beer and hot dogs! either way, you’re in luck!! Their stadium is very nice and clean when i’ve gone and the fans love their team!! I love a good camaraderie for a sports team 🙂 I’m always game (pun intended) for spending a few hours of the summer enjoying America’s pasttime, but thats the St Louis Cardinals fan in me talking!
Top Golf – Midtown // 1600 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 // 9am-midnight // $
Okay if you haven’t played Top Golf you are SO missing out!! I had to be pulled fully against my will to go to what I thought would be a miserable experience because I’ve never played golf, but OMG it was a BLAST!! I played Top Golf for the first time in Atlanta and i was HORRIFIC but had SO much fun, and the venue is beautiful (plus they had great food and drinks!!!) So if you catch yourself in Atlanta and have always wanted to give it a shot, the space is awesome and it was AWESOOMEEE OMGGGG. and if it makes you feel better, i 100% got a worse score than you would so… don’t you fret!
Babs – Midtown // 814 Juniper St NE #3, Atlanta, GA 30308 // 8:30am-3pm // $
This past time when I was in Atlanta, the hotel was just around the corner from this adorable row of cute homes that had all been turned into restaurants. We were recommended to this place, Babs, which had a menu of about 5 items (yes 5 total – cool right?!) but ALL of the items looked incredible!! We had a hard time making a decision that’s for sure. Not only that, but i truly think my chicken x swiss x mushroom omelette was the best thing i’ve had…ever. like for real, i will sing praises to that omelette forever!! if you’re in the area, it’s worth checking out (plus the place itself is quaint and precious and has quirky decor, ugh i just loved it).
JCT Kitchen – Westside Provisions // 1198 Howell Mill Rd #18, Atlanta, GA 30318 // 11am–2:30pm, 5–10pm // $$
OKAY so there is a part of Atlanta called Westside Provisions and I really have…no idea how to describe it…it’s like an industrial trendy modern little shopping area with little restaurants and bars and coffee shops (and of course boutiques and stores, etc) and it’s…awesome!!!! JCT is an open little space perfect for lunch, but i’d say not so much dinner and I say that for two reasons: 1) the small plates menu is limited but literally everything on it looks perfect to munch on with friends while catching up in the sunshine with a bottle of rose and 2) it’s just the best hannnnng spot. Like I would almost even go to brunch nearby and then go hang there on the outdoor patio for a post brunch cocktail and truffle fries. We spent hours here because it’s just so beautiful!
Ormsbys – Westside Provisions // 1170 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta, GA 30318 // 11:30am-3am // $$
SO we actually headed to Westside provisions to go to JCT but it didn’t open til 5, so had some time to spare. Thankfully!! Ormsbys, this cool bar downstairs, was open for biz and such a fun space. When you walk in, it looks like your same ol rustic, kind of country feel with wooden picnic tables and a lineup of a ton of draft beers. But what you DON’T see at first is the MASSIVE BASEMENT OF ACTIVITIES. Darts, pool, and even BOCCE BALL. like what?! it was such a fun weekend activity and perfect way to pass the time. Other positive? Not too crowded! I think our way of doing Ormsbys and then JCT kitchen was perfect, honestly. Highly recommend!
South City Kitchen – Midtown // 1144 Crescent Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 // 11am–3:30pm, 5–10pm // $$$
“SO where do I have to go eat in Atlanta” = my favorite question to ask locals in any city, hands down. the suggestions are always TOP notch – the funny thing about this question and Atlanta is that even people who have just VISITED Atlanta have heard of/been to South City Kitchen – it’s that good. if you want the best fried chicken in the city, go here!!!!!!! it’s a must. Popeyes is for babies.
Two Urban Licks – Little Five Points // 820 Ralph McGill Blvd NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 // 5:30pm-12am // $$$
Okay, this is my absolute favorite restaurant in all of Atlanta and it’s SOOOO my style!! first, all of the plates are perfect for sharing (which is how I eat if you ever dine with me), the food is PERFECT unique elegant and delicious, and the place is trendy with a great vibe and not too loud. I loved that it’s in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere – or so it feels – and I mean, if you don’t feel like you’re going to be Taken while you’re eating, Liam Neeson style, you’re not doing it right. I SWEAR TO YOU anyone I have brought here walks away so happy that they had the experience. not horrifically expensive but if you want to save your money, grab a drink at the bar here just to check it out. lastly – who doesn’t love an open kitchen concept?!
Staplehouse – Downtown // 541 Edgewood Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30312 // 5:30pm-10pm // $$$$
Guys – Staplehouse. Wow. I mean, just go to Atlanta immediately for this place. the story alone will get you – i’ll make it QUICK. basically this married couple had a beautiful tradition of hosting monthly dinner parties where the food was just phenomenal and decided to start a restaurant, however, the husband shortly after was diagnosed with terminal cancer and unfortunately passed rather quickly. In his honor and in order to give back to others in the restaurant industry who experience hardship, they began a charity to help out these families, and 100% of the profits of Staplehouse go directly to this charity they began. I mean…how sweet is that? Not only starting a charity in his memory, but also completing the restaurant they dreamed of?? BRB drying up my tears. OH YA AND THE FOODS AMAZING SO. (ps. you need a reservation to eat, its required – no exceptions!)
The Lawrence – Midtown // 905 Juniper St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 // 11am-10:30pm // $$
be warned – this is not for everyone. the Lawrence is only for people who love beautiful restaurants with great cocktails and modern décor and a trendy feel in a wonderful neighborhood so if all of that sounds miserable, STEER CLEAR. to be fair, I haven’t been here but it’s been on my bucket list for some time and I’m a bittttt annoyed with myself that I didn’t go last time I was in Atlanta!! I’d say this would be a cute spot to pop in and grab a cocktail after a long day of adventuring – seems to me to be a better place for day than for night but i’m sure both are amazing!
White Oak – Downtown // 270 Peachtree St NW, 100, Atlanta, GA 30303 // 11am-11pm // $$
OK SO White Oak is the first place that I went to the first time I went to Atlanta years ago so maybe part of this is sentimental but I just love this place. Definitely more convenient if you’re staying downtown or if you’re coming from the aquarium/coca cola museum but I recommend grabbing a drink here for sure. The ONNNNLYYY reason that I am not recommending this for dinner is because I think the food is….fine. It’s delicious for sure, but if you’re looking for a meal to remember, or something you haven’t had before, or a super cool experience, i’d rather recommend the other places. But the bar here really is great with full of very inventive cocktails with a beautiful space for a post-museum lounge moment!
