HEY FRIENDS OMG HOW IS IT THE END OF JUNE LIKE WHAT.
the 4th of july is basically tomorrow and i LOVE a holiday moment – like i LOVE dressing up for any occasion! christmas, thanksgiving, the met gala YOU NAME IT. but the caveat here is that dressing for an occasion does not mean wearing a costume or overdoing the theme. for instance, the 4th of july just SCREAMS an occasion with the decorations, the food, the traditions and that does not stop when it comes to the perfect outfit. whether you’re spending the day by some body of water, with family or friends at a barbecue, or with your fab gay cousin having a picnic in NYC to watch the Macys Fireworks Show (aka my plans! hayyyy blake!), it’s FUN to dress up for the country and to celebrate in style. instead of wearing blatant fourth of july clothes that you can only wear one day of the year, i’m more interested in wearing something that screams “patriotic” but can also be worn on your average Wednesday as well…
UPDATED JUNE 20 OUT OF ANGER AND DISGUST: …especially since our country is currently the trashcan of the world and denying anyone who isnt white their basic freedoms but i lose 94892384 followers anytime i write something political.
oh wait, look how much i care? as little as our president does about women, and also like, human beings in general. how do you celebrate the 4th of july when you can’t even respect the President? or when the country you live in has ACTUAL GROUPS OF PEOPLE who think separating families is morally okay even though its NOT A LAW. hashtag not fake news.
if you repeat a lie enough, people will start to take it as fact. its brainwashing 101.
now we have people shouting pro-life at trump rallies and saying “well the parents shouldnt have broken the law” while being taken from their kids who are detained in actual cages and we’re supposed to be PROUD? i’m ashamed of our country and where it is right now. but YET i can still let you know how and why i can celebrate this country. i can celebrate because I TRULY BELIEVE this is a bad moment (yes an absolutely excruciating and terrible moment) for our country but not one we can’t fix. CAN YOU GUYS FREAKING VOTE PLEASE WE HAVE POWER TO TAKE A MAJORITY STANCE. i also TRULY BELIEVE in the fact that many people are against this doofus who claims to be running our country. we can get him out of office, we will, and those loyal to him will flip.
That gives me hope, and the belief that this country can redeem itself from this mass embarrassment gives me hope. EMPATHY wins – COMPASSION wins – DIPLOMACY wins. this bigotry and hatred can only last so long and i swear to you that the hope for a better future (i know so cliche but still) does keep me going strong. Now back to the blog post…
Here’s what’s in my cart for this Fourth of July – hope this gives you some fun inspo to rock your stars and stripes too!
happy \\early// birthday america!!!
