the worst part of it being negative 4 bazillion degrees outside (besides the mile walk to work) is that i am SO OVER my fall wardrobe. i mean, how many times can i mix/match my different leather leggings, sweaters and black booties? i think i’ve done every possible combination. all i want to do is wear something new that isnt BLACK and LEATHER and SNUGGLY. i miss spring !!!
to cure the pain, i thought “i’ll just BUY spring things and then have a great new wardrobe when it gets warm!” and then i remembered one vital piece of the puzzle.
the earth shattering concept of rent in this city (or rent anywhere, really) and the toll it takes on my wardrobe brings me to tears sometimes. this is one of those moments. the great point? some really affordable websites have some pretty legit spring items right now. (note: not cheap like they will break–affordable like you can still buy groceries). when shopping on a dime, i immediately look to Asos, SheInside, SaksOffFifth, and occasionally Forever21. below are my top choices from all of them with the pros and cons of their business. enjoy, and feel free to spend without guilt (and with groceries!).
con: if you aren’t willing to spend $50-$75, the clothing options look pretty basic
i. love. body suits. its a guaranteed way of tucking your top into your bottoms without them bunching strangely. this red criss cross one would be super cute tucked into those black shorts.
asos remains my go-to because they are spot on with their trends. if you check out their trend reports or best seller portions, you will find the strongest looks for the season at really great prices. i have plenty of things from Asos and always regret looking at their site (in a good way of course!)
pro: almost perfect designer knock offs (even though it takes some digging)
con: shipping can sometimes take 2 or 3 weeks — but free!
i originally discovered SheInside from pinterest, and thank god i did! i found perfect replicas of some of my favorite designer pieces and amazing jewelry for 5 or 6 bucks! #score my last shipment did take almost 2 weeks to arrive (all their stock is in asia) but i spent $113 and got 5 things. that’s way too good to beat. (ps. may or may not have bought the shorts….)
con: sizes and availability is limited so you have to act quick !
ok lets do some quick math. you can go to forever 21 or h&m and buy a faux cheapy leather skirt for what…25 bucks? or! you can go to SaksOffFifth and buy this leather skirt that was originally $110 for $34. plus that Bailey 44 tank is marked down to $41? i think i’ve made my point. you’re going to be the best dressed girl in town … and still have cab fare.
con: stand out pieces are very recognizable, due to the fact that every girl in her 20s shops here. you can’t use the “oh i don’t remember where i got this” excuse when we all saw it online last week. also, it will probably fall apart within 3 months (if that).
yep definitely the lowest total price, and all items are super cute (plus free shipping for $50+)! i see that perforated cardigan fitting in my spring wardrobe–maybe a beach coverup? i can’t believe all of this is less than $100…that’s less than a decent night’s bar tab…i mean…dinner. F21 is perfect for super trendy items that you want to test out because by the time the fad is trashed, your shirt probably is as well.
as good ol carrie bradshaw said, “i like my money right where i can see it–hanging in my closet!”
what items are you most excited for this spring? do you discount shop or save for major items? i would love to have the scoop. either way, get ready guys and dolls, spring will be here in no time…right? xo
