I love LA so unbelievably much, like i wish in my heart that I could be bicoastal. That’s kind of my life goal – to be able to go back and forth from LA to NYC whenever I want but here i am without a dollar in savings acting like i’m rolling in money. I do realize that a big reason I may love LA is that I get to leave (kind of my feelings on parenthood?) but the proximity to the ocean, the ability to go hiking whenever, the great food, the sunshine – it’s definitely my second favorite city (such a New York thing to say). I’m a little bit of a brat when it comes to my travel and i’ve gotten to the place in life where if I don’t get out to LA every 6 months, I pretty much lose my mind. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY, I have plenty of tips for you!
if you can’t tell, I spend a lot of my time in the West Hollywood area, mainly because literally all my friends live nearby (except my cousin, Hi Laura!). Next time I go, I’ll make sure to branch out for you and give ideas from other parts of LA as well in case you end up in a different part of LA! Check out my suggestions obviously all listed Alphabetically because i’m an Aries and i have a problem.
For now, because food and restaurants are my driving force in life, i’m rounding up all my favorite restaurants and spots for you if you ever head out West. enjoy!
Alfreds – Melrose Place // 8428 Melrose Pl // 7am–8pm // $
Alfreds coffee is probably my favorite of the coffee spots for the location alone. Not only is the ivy on the front of the building super pretty, or the backdrop of gorgeous shopping district Melrose Place, but the people watching is FAB. celebrities, major bloggers, wannabe bloggers from STL who happen to live in NYC now named Ashli, they all frequent this awesome coffee spot. My go-to coffee drink is an unsweetened almond milk Latte which i highly recommend here. Go at an “off time” if you want to avoid the 45 min wait and you want to snag the perfect IG photo of their totally grammable interior. Better for a grab and go coffee because seating is minimal but you can head to Alfreds then meander around shopping!
Blackwood Coffee – West Hollywood // 7509 Sunset Blvd // 7AM–5PM // $
Blackwood is a favorite for me because it’s straight up a block down from where I stay, and my NYC legs miss walking after just one day in LA. On top of that, the drinks here are BOMB. Lavender Honey Latte? WHAT. Sparkling Orange Latte? YOU KIDDING. They have many other unique offerings and if you head over to this spot, make it worth your while. Honorable mention: Avocado toast. One of my favorites of all time. Also good to know that this is a great space to work with plenty of seating available
Coffee Coffee – West Hollywood // 1040 N Fairfax Ave // 8AM–4PM // $
Ok my friends are obsessed with this place (probably due to its proximity to their gym, Brick) and when i showed up i did not get why Sure the fence sign is super cool and the hand painted drum cymbals inside are amazing but this place has like one table outside (so definitely a grab and go spot). Then I tasted the coffee and now? Big fan. HUGE. Highly recommend! They don’t serve food but they have a couple pastries so get a cronut if you can 😉
Coffee Commissary – West Hollywood // 801 N Fairfax Ave // 7AM–8PM // $
Coffee Commissary is my personal favorite mainly because I enjoy the modern interior, the mass amount of seating and their great array of teas if i’m in that mood. Not to mention their food truck outside has THE BEST bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich i’ve had and i LIVE IN NEW YORK IM SORRY TO MY CITY. To be fair, it was called the New Yorker. Best to go here if you need a place to chill for a minute or if you have a quick work meeting etc. Coffee Coffee is basically across the street if picking something up to go.
The Farm – Beverly Hills // 439 N Beverly Dr // 7:30AM–8PM // $$$
haven’t been to but highly regarded and on my list. go here for one of those high class lunches other people than me go to and have a glass of champagne and say “oh dahhhling” and then go shopping on Rodeo Drive. i’ll go there at some point but just haven’t yet. TBD
Urth – West Hollywood // 8565 Melrose Ave // 6AM–11PM // $
Perfect go to no fuss easy lunch spot where you can sit outside, but it feels JUST SO LA YOU CAN FEEL IT IN YOUR PALEO BONES. healthy, delicious, outdoor eating, and perfect people watching. I love it for an easy bite and always knowing you’ll love anything that you get there. Cute spot.
Zinque – West Hollywood // 8684 Melrose Ave // 7AM-12AM// $$
I went to Zinque for lunch…and fine, a glass…okay fine a bottle…of wine with one of my fave LA gal pals that I used to work with and it did not disappoint. Located perfectly on Melrose and quite the hot spot, i saw 3 celebrities while there BUT BECAUSE I’M INTO BLOGGERS i fangirled sooooo hard when I saw Julie Sarinana – better known as Sincerely Jules -and lost my sh*t SO hard that you’d have thought Brad Pitt had just asked me to marry him. so ya, go there. oh and all of their salads are bomb, so just like – any of those. ever since, it’s been a must for me for the perfect outdoor lunch. worth noting: not really worth going if you cant sit outside.
Citizen – Beverly Hills // 184 N Canon Dr // 12-10PM // $$$
here are some things i like: small plates, shishito peppers, delicious cocktail menus, Beverly Hills. i also would like to add that on a list of things i don’t like, beets might be number 1 or 2 or top 5 no question, BUT HERE AT CITIZEN someone talked me into trying them and for the only time ever, i thought – okay these don’t taste like rotted potatoes wrapped in vinegar. which to me, means the place is worth checking out. everything else was amazing as well but i wanted to tell the beet story.
Eveleigh – West Hollywood // 8752 Sunset Blvd // 5-11PM // $$
OKAY I DONT MEAN TO YELL AT YOU BUT THIS MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR DINNER IN LOS ANGELES. wait, no it’s not. okay i’ll say its 2nd place but it’s GOOD. also, i went here with some friends and between all of us, i’m pretty sure we tried the whole menu and i can personally attest to the fact that the food is awesome, but moreso, the ambiance is perfect. in my opinion, better for a fun group enjoying time together, but definitely a great little date spot as well.
Gracias Madre -West Hollywood // 8905 Melrose Ave // 10AM–11PM // $$
i. love. Gracias. Madre. i didn’t think for TWO SECONDS that i would like this crunchy a$$ spot (urban dictionary the word crunchy to understand what i mean by that) because it’s vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, blaaaaaaaah blahblabla blaaaaaaaah it just rings to me annoying and disgusting. i expected a plate full of sauteed tofu and broccoli for $65 a person, but i was PLEASANTLY surprised. i’ve had a few plates at Gracias Madre (i recommend the guac cause duh and also the tacos. any of them) and all of them were filling, delicious and totally made you forget you were eating supes healthy like whoa. the most important thing to know – they have the best spicy margarita i have ever had in my life, and everyone agrees with me. you won’t regret it. this is a 0% exaggeration. it’s the best one on the planet, period.
Laurel Hardware – West Hollywood // 7984 Santa Monica Blvd // 11PM-2AM // $$$
OKAY THIS IS NO QUESTION 100% MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN ALL OF LA AND I DON’T EVEN HAVE TO THINK TWICE.
i go here every. single. time. i go to LA and yes, sometimes more than once because every dish is PERFECT, they have amazing cocktails (dare i say, my favorite cocktail list in the country?) and the place is GORGEOUS. it’s also super quirky because they bought an actual place called “Laurel Hardware” to make a restaurant and kept the entrance of the hardware store, thus the name. idk i love it, you need to go its really not even a question you should just get on a plane now. i know i am.
Taste – West Hollywood // 8454 Melrose Ave // 11:30AM–10PM // $$
i like this place for like a date night or a cute little gals night dinner – it’s a sweet little spot and feels super trendy but the foods awesome. order the sunchokes (still not sure what they are, but whoa), the mac n cheese, the chicken lettuce cups, the risotto, any of the pizzettes, etc and you’re going to have one of your favorite meals. strangely enough this is a place i recommend sitting inside – unless it’s a warm night – because the inside is wayyy prettier and better mood.
Catch – West Hollywood // 8715 Melrose Ave // 5PM-2AM // $$$
Chateau Marmont – West Hollywood // 8221 Sunset Blvd // 8AM-2AM // $$$
EP & LP – West Hollywood // 603 La Cienega Blvd // 5AM-2AM// $$$
Pikey – West Hollywood // 7617 Sunset Blvd // 12PM-2AM // $$
Sur (or Pump!) – West Hollywood // 606 N Robertson Blvd // 5:30–11PM // $$
STAY TUNED for my recommendations for hiking, touristy destinations, Santa Monica/Venice, etc.
