so you wanna get away, yes?
i feel you. i mean i feeeeeeeeel you!!! i’ll stop feeling you now.
summer continually seems like a consistent stream of fleeing your city to flock to the closest body of water where we tend to remain there during these 3 short months. whether a lakehouse, the hamptons or just your bathtub (no judgment, bottles up), these getaways clear the mind, fill the tummy, bring you new jamz and allow your skin to absorb copious amounts of the vitamin D it knows it will be craving come february.
i highly encourage weekend getaways MAAAINLY because i secretly obsess over overnight bags. ITS TRUE. a clean round duffle made of leather strikes my fancy any day of the week although friday is prime.
“but ashli! with an eye! what ever do i pack! i always end up overpacking!!!! exclamation points!!!“ —-> tragedy strikes. again i feeeelll
you……sorry. i said i was done. i’ve done the pre-thinking for you and basically got all yo’ bases covered. by now in life, if you find your closet devoid of the following basic items, slap your wrist but then celebrate because YAY! SHOPPING!
enjoy!! or don’t. which is sad for you (p.s. all links below bring you to products! +3 pts for convenience)
**insider tip: correspond all colors so you can mix and match (in this case, black and white with some basic color pops)
ok so you’re packed. NOW ASHLI, WHAT NEXT??!?!?!
fear not, i shall spell it out for you.
outfit 1: post work travel via car, train, helicopter where you obvs need to be comfortable but also need those slip ons for gross bus stops and to protect your toesies from cold interiors. also, pants > shorts while traveling. always. tee for comfort, cardi for coze.
outfit 2: dinnatiiime with yo hunny, best friends or your sweet self (good for you for traveling alone!). dressed up but not too overdone, this skirt and blouse combo properly fits in to any dinner atmosphere
outfit 3: winery/brewery tour where comfort may be key but so is cuteness. you will have the opportunity to sit at both venues, so definitely bring those heels back out for a day of drinks and a silky tee. too warm? the white shorts work too.
outfit 4: the restaurant recommended by the girl in Walgreens where all the locals go and they have the best live music. play it cool and easy and bring that funky button up to add some cool factor. throw on the flat sandals after a day in heels.
outfit 5: aww do we have to leeeave? and yes. sadly. you must. throw your flannel back on since its the last thing you took off and its likely sitting next to you on the nightstand, your fave skinnies and those amazing slip ons and head back to your home.
………until next weekend.
any plans comin up? going out of town? can i come? am i being too creepy after telling you im feeling you? im sorry? why am i still here? maybe youll just forget about me if i keep writing question marks? no? ????? how bout now???

the worst part of it being negative 4 bazillion degrees outside (besides the mile walk to work) is that i am SO OVER my fall wardrobe. i mean, how many times can i mix/match my different leather leggings, sweaters and black booties? i think i’ve done every possible combination. all i want to do is wear something new that isnt BLACK and LEATHER and SNUGGLY. i miss spring !!!
to cure the pain, i thought “i’ll just BUY spring things and then have a great new wardrobe when it gets warm!” and then i remembered one vital piece of the puzzle.
the earth shattering concept of rent in this city (or rent anywhere, really) and the toll it takes on my wardrobe brings me to tears sometimes. this is one of those moments. the great point? some really affordable websites have some pretty legit spring items right now. (note: not cheap like they will break–affordable like you can still buy groceries). when shopping on a dime, i immediately look to Asos, SheInside, SaksOffFifth, and occasionally Forever21. below are my top choices from all of them with the pros and cons of their business. enjoy, and feel free to spend without guilt (and with groceries!).
con: if you aren’t willing to spend $50-$75, the clothing options look pretty basic
i. love. body suits. its a guaranteed way of tucking your top into your bottoms without them bunching strangely. this red criss cross one would be super cute tucked into those black shorts.
asos remains my go-to because they are spot on with their trends. if you check out their trend reports or best seller portions, you will find the strongest looks for the season at really great prices. i have plenty of things from Asos and always regret looking at their site (in a good way of course!)
pro: almost perfect designer knock offs (even though it takes some digging)
con: shipping can sometimes take 2 or 3 weeks — but free!
i originally discovered SheInside from pinterest, and thank god i did! i found perfect replicas of some of my favorite designer pieces and amazing jewelry for 5 or 6 bucks! #score my last shipment did take almost 2 weeks to arrive (all their stock is in asia) but i spent $113 and got 5 things. that’s way too good to beat. (ps. may or may not have bought the shorts….)
con: sizes and availability is limited so you have to act quick !
ok lets do some quick math. you can go to forever 21 or h&m and buy a faux cheapy leather skirt for what…25 bucks? or! you can go to SaksOffFifth and buy this leather skirt that was originally $110 for $34. plus that Bailey 44 tank is marked down to $41? i think i’ve made my point. you’re going to be the best dressed girl in town … and still have cab fare.
con: stand out pieces are very recognizable, due to the fact that every girl in her 20s shops here. you can’t use the “oh i don’t remember where i got this” excuse when we all saw it online last week. also, it will probably fall apart within 3 months (if that).
yep definitely the lowest total price, and all items are super cute (plus free shipping for $50+)! i see that perforated cardigan fitting in my spring wardrobe–maybe a beach coverup? i can’t believe all of this is less than $100…that’s less than a decent night’s bar tab…i mean…dinner. F21 is perfect for super trendy items that you want to test out because by the time the fad is trashed, your shirt probably is as well.
as good ol carrie bradshaw said, “i like my money right where i can see it–hanging in my closet!”
what items are you most excited for this spring? do you discount shop or save for major items? i would love to have the scoop. either way, get ready guys and dolls, spring will be here in no time…right? xo
as always, you can keep up with other daily ramblings on twitter or instagram: @ashli_p
everybody has their thing you don’t eff with. for some that’s their car. for others it may be their alphabetized cd collection that they can’t get rid of even though CDs are so 2000. maybe you, like me, hold your particular “i like things a certain way” tendencies in a different way. for me, it’s my shower items.
rule #461: expensive items always prove their worth…and last. a while.
fake totally naturally and non-enhanced blonde, i stumbled upon daddy-o shampoo and told myself i` would use it “every so often”….until i used it once and got an endless amount of compliments. the second and third time reassured my decision that this product needs a promotion in the hair-care department, putting tresemme on the backburner for now. this. shampoo. rocks. and at $30 a bottle, this money well spent is worth it when you’re consistently hearing “i wish my hair looked like that!” pro tip: paired with M moroccan oil, you’ll be unstoppable.
because there’s nothing better than feeling clean and smelling nice, i have to include my favorite shower gel by philosophy. not only do their labels give me a chuckle (or a recipe!) but the scent is so light that i don’t get out of my shower smelling like a strawberry kiwi pie with whipped cream and ocean waves all wrapped up together. thus, why i use a single spritz of john varvatos, my secret weapon. everytime i wear this around my mannnn he says “wow you smell so good” and i think, “thank you john!” i now stockpile the stuff.
by age 25, i believe it’s time to invest in a quality skin care regimen and anyone shopping for the best products knows it’s 100% clinique. a mild face wash, toner and the BEST face lotion i’ve ever used makes cliniques 3-step program the must-have go-to that i know i swear by.
TIIIIME for a shower renovation! with my favorite products, you’ll step out of the shower with clean skin, a fresh face, bright gorgeous hair and smelling wonderful. i dare you not to try it for yourself.
what are your must haves?
let me know in the comments, on facebook, etc. just please leave me alone when i’m in the shower.
